SLOAN TROPHY - Round 3

(Sun, 24 March 2024)

A stunning autumn day saw 10 teams on course for the club's annual hosting of a round of the Sloan Trophy. A special welcome to the Tasman Junior Rep team who competed against the host club Tasman. Our team fared well with 4 wins out of 6 but were impressed by the standard of the juniors competing.

A full round up of the results is below.

Congratulations to Totaradale who took out Nelson with a clean sweep of 6 wins. Last year's Sloan winner (Golden Downs) also had a good day winning 5 of their 6 matches.

9H LADIES TOURNAMENT RESULTS

(posted 1 July 2022)

A big thanks to the field of 27 keen ladies who lined up for our annual 9H district tournament held yesterday (30 June). The golf was mixed but as always the views and the comaraderie were second to none  - a good time was had by all. This year there were 3 in the field from Central Otago/Southern Lakes. We hope to see you all back in 2023! A big thanks also to our many sponsors, mostly local businesses, who ensured we had a plentiful prize table. Thanks also to the volunteers (Gabrielle, Martin & Cyndy) who helped make sure the event ran smoothly on the day.

RYDER CUP WIN

(posted 29 Nov 2021)

With the August COVID lockdown seeing a change to the programme, we competed to retain the “Ryder Cup” held  annually between Tasman and Totaradale on the weekend of 27th & 28th of November.

With home advantage to Totaradale, good results from the Tasman Team saw 3 wins apiece for Tasman and Totaradale, with the last match halved in front of the clubhouse where Tasman snatched a draw from certain victory after a 4 putt loss of hole. So into the afternoon with the score 3 ½ to 3 ½.   The afternoon saw Tasman dominating most of the best ball matches winning the afternoon 4 ½ to 2 ½ taking a somewhat unexpected 8 to 6 lead overnight.

Sunday saw drizzle early, but in the individual match play saw total dominance from the Tasman team.  For the first  time in history*, Tasman did not lose an individuals match. 13 wins and 3 draws for a Sunday total of 14 ½ to 1 ½, saw Tasman cruise home 22 ½ to 7 ½.

Congratulations to the Tasman team.  That is 4 wins in a row.

*Perhaps - I have no idea if this is true.

9-HOLE LADIES WIN BEST OF THE BEST

(report posted Sat, 23 Oct 2021)

Earlier this week, the Tasman women participated in the 9 hole Best of the Best competition, which is a regional event equivalent to the 18 hole Champion of Champions. This was held in Marlborough at Fairhall golf club.

The Team consisted of Lyndal McMeeking, winner of our A grade championship, Jill Gillan, runner up and Dawn Carter, our most improved player. I myself joined the group as Team Manager / Caddie and off course 'FOMO'. ( for those who are not up to date with this term, it means 'fear of missing out').

On the Monday afternoon, we were able to have a practice round, and when we got to number 5 hole, a Par 3, Lyndal was the first to hit off, we watched her hit a very nice shot which landed on the green and then unbelievably went into the hole!! As you can imagine we were extremely excited, it was a wonder you didn't

hear us back in Tasman. We were just so thrilled for Lyndal and I am sure you will all join us in

congratulating her.

But wait there is more.......so on Tuesday, the day of the competition, Jill and Lyndal played in the A grade division and Dawn was in the Most Improved Player division. When it came to the Prize giving, we were all delighted to hear that Jill had won the A grade best gross, and the overall trophy top prize, for best gross over the 2 Divisions. Dawn was the winner of the Most Improved Player, for the whole region, and then just to top things off Tasman was the winner of the Team event, this was the best combined stablefords.

So how amazing is all that, for such a small club with a very small number of women members, it was

a very proud moment!

Thank you to Tasman Golf Club, in supporting us to partake in the competition.

Pam Robert, Team Manager
